The 3 Counties Season started with a tough away trip to last years runners up Folke, Vivary have never won away to Folke and got off to the standard start!
Adam Reed and Captain fantastic Ol’ big hands Mark Hewitson took what can only be described as a lifetime to play their game holding up every other group except the wee lads coming in last. Reeder commented 1 down all the way round, lost 2&1
Next up Dan Jackson and Gary Bishop never won at Folke went 1 down early but hit the turn 1up and never went behind again, a lovely 3 putt from Nath on 16 from 12ft and dormy 2, Jacko smashes one to the edge of the green on the par 4 and it’s game over 1-1.
Game 3 – We will call it “The Etiquette”
Not use to league golf Michael Wilson and Robbie Miller smashed the unbeaten Folke pair 7&6, great win but maybe don’t drive into the group in front and shut up when others are playing, it’s a learning curve!
Next up was Dan Barnes and 3 putt Freddie Jim Kenworthy
A great start from Dan as he hit not 1 but 2 in the water doesn’t sound too bad until you know the water is 10 yards from the tee and the size of a goldfish pond! Anyway the 18th all square and unlike The self proclaimed best player in the club (Macca) Big Jim doesn’t bottle it! 2 putts from 25ft for the win and as we caressed the Thatcher’s gold in the garden we thought a half was fine! Jim didn’t disappoint 2 putts and a big cheer almost as big as when he smashed his nose walking into the door before the game
Game 5 – The Trophy game – Brian Thomas and Dave Andrews just give us the points, 4 up through 5 and then bored them throughout to easily win 4&3 and be back to see Jim’s heroics!
Game 6 – The Stouts – Everyone was in shock at the start seeing Bob hand money in a different direction! A game that was very close all the way, Bobs words! Ending with a 3&1 loss.
A great win for Vivary 18-6 (4-2)
We can’t not mention the lovely pint on the way home in The Montacute Inn some may say it’s called The Kings Arms but it’s the only pub in Montacute!!!
