Five-Star Vivary! Seniors March into Semi-Finals with 5-0 Clean Sweep
Match Result: Vivary Golf Club Seniors 5 – 0 Isle of Wedmore Golf Club
Vivary Golf Club Seniors put on an absolute clinic on the home fairways, dismantling a strong Isle of Wedmore side with a spectacular 5-0 clean sweep to secure their place in the semi-finals of the Seniors Rosebowl.
The headline of the day belonged to Andy Woodward, who was given a massive welcome to the Seniors section. Making his competitive debut just one day after celebrating his 55th birthday, Woodward marked the milestone in style alongside the clinical Steve Wilson. The powerhouse pairing simply blew their opponents away, putting on a masterclass performance to record a resounding 7&5 victory and set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
With the first point on the board, the rest of the Vivary pairings followed suit with a display of total dominance. Mark Pavey and Mark McKenna showed excellent teamwork and consistency to grind out a fine 3&2 win, a result replicated shortly after by the dependable duo of Eddie Cullen and Graham Stagg, who also wrapped up their match 3&2.
Isle of Wedmore tried desperately to find a foothold in the tie, but Vivary’s middle and tail orders refused to budge. Nigel Hutchings and Mark Payne played some superb scratch golf down the stretch to lock in a commanding 5&3 triumph.
The historic whitewash was ultimately completed in a nail-biting final match, where Colin Dyke and Paul Short showed fantastic composure under pressure to edge out their opponents 2&1, ensuring the clean sweep remained perfectly intact.
It was a flawless team performance from start to finish, packed with clinical finishing and phenomenal team spirit. Vivary Seniors now march into the Semi-Finals riding a massive wave of confidence.
A huge congratulations to the entire squad, and a very happy 55th birthday week to debutant Andy Woodward!
