Match Report provided by Gary Bishop
Division 1 Avalon League golf returned for Vivary Golf Club away at Long Sutton.
The team were looking forward to a great course with usually excellent greens, Team captain Kavan Butland led the way with brother Kleighton and lost 2 & 1 with Kleigh describing it as “I’ve played much better and lost 7&6”
Next up was the best Irish golfer in the club Macca and Steve Wilson who went up the last all square! Both on the edge of the green for 2 and both ended with 6, lost to a 5! League experience at its best there!
Game 3 was game of the day, the returning Rob Miller and club favourite Mark Pavey 3 down with 4 to play, all to play for going up the last and Pave misses the green left by some distance, his ever cool head with a chip and a putt to get points on the board for Vivary.
Game 4 and lambs to the slaughter (Captain’s words) Shaun Lee and Gary Bishop lost 3&2 some excellent golf, some bad golf and few expletives but a good game, last up in game 5 was the turn of the senior pros Mark Payne and Graham Stagg, this result was never in doubt and we were treated to Payners trademark dance as he walked back to his adoring crowd in the beer garden!
